Earaches often begin at night and cause many sleepless nights. Ear pain does not always indicate an ear infection. Often, cold symptoms will cause intermittent ear pain without a fever. An ear infection is often accompanied by a fever with persistent ear pain.
To alleviate ear pain:
- You may offer Tylenol or Motrin - ( Dosage Charts )
- A heating pad over the ear for a child over one year of age.
- You may use prescription drops (i.e. Auralgan) if available. If you do not have any, then you may use a few drops of gin in the ear and plug with cotton. (Do not use if the ear is draining)
- If the earache persists in the morning, please call the office for an appointment.
