Earache

Earaches often begin at night and cause many sleepless nights. Ear pain does not always indicate an ear infection. Often, cold symptoms will cause intermittent ear pain without a fever. An ear infection is often accompanied by a fever with persistent ear pain.

To alleviate ear pain:

  1. You may offer Tylenol or Motrin - ( Dosage Charts )
  2. A heating pad over the ear for a child over one year of age.
  3. You may use prescription drops (i.e. Auralgan) if available. If you do not have any, then you may use a few drops of gin in the ear and plug with cotton. (Do not use if the ear is draining)
  4. If the earache persists in the morning, please call the office for an appointment.
